about the festival

Mission Statement

CHOICE! A Birth and Baby Film Festival. Presenting documentary films selected to increase awareness and discussion about the range options in birth and child rearing. Events are open to all who are interested in family health and well-being. By becoming aware of the choices available, audience members are better able to make informed decisions with their families.

CHOICE! History

In 2009, the Coalition for Breech Birth hosted an International Breech Birth conference. Karen Brody’s play BIRTH was staged as a fund raiser, along with the film What Babies Want. The organizers loved the community spirit that was fostered in the audience of that first film and entered into discussions to host more films. CHOICE! A Birth and Baby Film Festival was born in 2011.

In 2012, 11 films were screened. Although the festival barely broke even, a love for the community that had been created drove the organizers to mount 5 films in 2013 and then 4 in 2014. It is the hope of the organizers that the festival will continue to run for many years.
